FAQ

What is a clinical herbalist?

As far as my practice goes, “clinical herbalist” means I’m educated and trained in how the body works, and in understanding the many threads that contribute to wellness (diet and nutrition, lifestyle choices, exercise, sleep hygiene, etc). I am more concerned with educating you on and correcting the root cause of any imbalances you may be dealing with, rather than just easing distress. Of course, easing distress is often part of solution.

I take a holistic approach to your assessment, which means I look at you as a whole person and not just a set of symptoms or a body with a set of symptoms. You are the one coming to see me, and you are a human being, not just a set of symptoms.

Do you only see people who fit the areas you specialize in?

I specialize in stress and anxiety, digestive issues, and female-bodied issues, but I am willing and able to provide assessments and wellness plans for anyone. If I feel that what you are dealing with is outside of my scope, I will refer you to someone else who is more qualified to help you.

How do herbs work?

I firmly and truly believe that herbs work by magic. We have a growing understanding of the chemical constituents of plants, but that doesn’t fully explain the way they work within the body. Isolating compounds of plants is entirely different than working with whole plants. And I believe in using whole plants to support whole people. Choosing the right plants will depend upon assessing your constitution and pairing you with what makes sense for correcting imbalance and helping you reach your wellness goals.

What are your views on biomedicine?

Allopathic medicine (the mainstream biomedical use of drugs/pharmaceuticals/surgery to treat symptoms of disease) absolutely has its place. Sometimes, what you really need is antibiotics, or surgery, or to be treated by a medical specialist. It’s my recommendation that anyone who works with me also has a primary care provider.

What can I expect when I work with you?

When you schedule your first holistic wellness consultation with me, you will receive two forms to fill out. One is a consent form, another is an intake form. The intake form is very thorough. All of this is through the platform Practice Better, which is HIPAA compliant. Please fill out the intake form as fully as you can, because it will help me create a full picture for interpreting the patterns you’re dealing with.

The initial consultation will take anywhere from 1.5-2 hours, typically. We’ll do your intake and assessment, get to know each other, clarify your wellness goals. I’ll ask a lot of questions. Anything you don’t want to answer, you don’t have to answer. Everything is always completely confidential.

After your initial consultation, I’ll put together a wellness plan for you. You’ll usually receive your wellness plan within a couple of days of your first consultation. If you feel that anything in your wellness plan is not something you’re willing and able to comply with, we’ll reassess and determine some alternatives. Otherwise, I’ll get your herbal formulas to you and you can get started! You can reach out to me anytime with questions or feedback. There is a free follow up appointment that we will schedule one month out from the original consultation.

What’s included in the wellness consultation?

The time of the initial intake and consultation is of course covered, as is the time spent putting together your wellness plan, and your first follow up appointment. 1-2 herbal formulas are also included.

What is an intuitive consultation?

In an intuitive consultation, we look at any aspect of your life (career, relationships, your spiritual path, goal setting, etc) that you want answers and guidance regarding, and we work through that together. Often, I will use tarot cards or other forms of divination to help you gain the insight and direction that you need. You will receive a written summary of our session after our session.

I do also provide tarot readings via email, through my other, first business Owl in the Oak Tarot.

No matter the service you receive from me, all of your information is kept strictly confidential.

What is the moon ritual subscription?

The moon ritual subscription is a series of rituals that align with the full moon and new moon each month. Ceremony is such an important part of living, but it’s lost to many of us. This is my effort to bring it back to more of us, because it’s invaluable in helping us to maintain balance and to know, love, and respect ourselves, while living intentionally.

Where are you located?

I work out of my home in Owatonna, MN. When you come to see me, you’ll be sitting with my in my in home office space. I am able to provide all consultations via video as well, if you are not local but feel that I am a good fit for you.
